So the thing is, we’re thinking all wrong about weight loss. Most people want to lose weight. But here’s the thing; putting on weight is a symptom of another issue. If you lose weight but don’t address the cause of the weight gain, the weight will come back on.

Hence, we need to address the causes of weight gain as it’s not only about eating less calories or doing more exercise, or a lack of willpower.

So, what are some of the causes of gaining excess weight? They might be:

  • Poor food choices

  • Emotional hunger (comfort eating)

  • Too much stress

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Lack of sleep

  • Overeating or binge-eating

  • Loneliness

  • Self-hatred

  • Financial worries

  • Fear

  • Anger

  • Negative thoughts about ourselves and others

Now is the time to recognise that our battles with weight requires a completely different approach.

To lose weight and keep it off, we must deal with the original problem; this takes perseverance and time.

There is no quick fix.
